Ardee Community School
This was a multi-phased project carried out over 17months, which involved the construction of a new 2 storey Extension with Special Needs Unit, extensive refurbishment of the existing school and sports hall buildings and a full revamp of the external hard and soft landscaping areas.
Phase 1 included the formation of the 3000m² temporary car park facility to the side of the existing sports hall, as the site of the new school building was located at the schools existing parking area.
Phase 2 included the full strip out of all Mechanical and Electrical services throughout the existing school building and sports hall, including removal of all ceilings, installation of all new fire rated doorsets and a full repaint. The works took place over the 8 week summer vacation period, as well as exploratory works during Easter 2017. It was also during the summer period a large section of the external civils works were completed, including the installation of 400m3 attenuation tank and complete new footpaths and roadway from the school’s entrance. The time frame for these elements of work was extremely restricted, however with careful planning and exceptional work ethic employed by FOH operatives and all their Subcontractors, the existing building were fully commissioned and handed over in advance of the beginning of the new school year.
Phase 3 included the construction of the 2900m² 2 storey extension and SNU facility, as well as the formation of the new carpark. This work was carried out in tandem with phase 2. The new school building is home to state of the art Technology, Home Economics’, Science Laboratories and computer rooms as well as a dedicated autistic unit.
Following the successful completion of the new extension building, 5 of the existing school mobile accommodation units were removed from the rear of the existing building and a new Ballcourt area installed, including basketball nets and chainlink fencing. The entire landscaping works were then completed.
The new state of the art facilities provide the best educational environment where effective teaching and learning can take place. It also provides much needed space for the ever increasing enrolment numbers the school has and is continuing to experience, which is testament to the incredible work carried out on a daily basis by all involved with this school.
